still chilly inland. 35 degrees in concord. 34 in santa rosa. 46 in san francisco. and 34 degrees in livermore. high pressure system no threat of rainfall today and for the foreseeable future. just a strong dominant ridge. the jet stream staying well to the north will keep us dry and these temperatures very mild as we head toward the afternoon. averages today in the 50s and 60s maybe a little above average in santa rosa, about 64 degrees. about 62 in consumer report. 62 in santa monica. we'll talk about that coming up. >> we have an accident through the santa cruz mountains fortunately just so early and traffic is so light across the stretch of northbound 17 not much of a delay. one lane is blocked northbound 17. sounds like it's approaching that idylwild road exit so again heads up heading into san jose. in the next 40 minutes they are activating the metering lights which they set up last week on northbound 280ics 6 to 10 a.m. through downtown san jose finally being activated this morning. here's a look across the golden gate bridge where not too many cars on the road so far heading

being threatened by these cut sgls while they're bickering in washington, here in santa rosa there's a lot of talk about how to keep these planes flying safely with nobody in the tower. >> if congress can't stave off the mandatory cuts, the f aa announced it's going to cut air traffic control to many regional airports across the country and that could mean planes would fly in and out of santa rosa without any tower pers knoll to guide them. >> how do they operate without a tower. >> well, there's a lot of guidelines about how you land a plane, how to take off a plane different landings different approaches. >> officials say the airport brings in an estimated $112 million economic impact to santa rosa and the surrounding community so the sequestered could leave a sfwlashg 13 14,000 employees could lose their job then we'd lose about $60,000 a year in to the federal government for part of the facilities we rent. >> they are worried alaska airlines might worry that the no-tower sun safe and pair bark on the number of flights here. that's the last thing the county needs. >> a lot of people

rosa. and currently, it looks like we are 55 in livermore. today's numbers in and around our microclimates, it was 56 in pacifica, 60 in fairfield, again these temperatures averaging warmer than yesterday. tonight's overnight lows, banking between the freezing point in the santa rosa area, 37 degrees in san jose. and 38 in mountain view. mountain 40s across the central bay. now, this is the scene looking out from mount vaca where we do not even have a cloud on the horizon. tonight starry skies, patchy frost overnight. it will be on the sunny side up on sunday. seasonal temperatures will prevail. and the dry weather pattern will continue. take a look at this right now. you're seeing that area of low pressure that we experienced couple of days back pooling out of the southern california area after dumping snowfall in the grapevine. high pressure firmly in place as it does continue to dominate the west coast here in the san francisco area. we are looking at this dry weather pattern continuing so you might want to ask here, precipitation of normal stats, san francisco 93% right n

roof top, don't see much cloud cover. check out the temperatures. they have dropped. san rosa currently 52. san jose 54. downtown san francisco only 51. inland, kind of like summertime. 61degrees in livermore right now. as you can guess, the radar is dry. man, has it been a big change. november and december combined in san rosa you had 20 inches of rain. january and the first week of february you have had less than one inch of rain. i don't see much changing over the next several days. another chilly night tonight. concord, livermore. redwood city for 9 degrees. with this on shore flow we will see the temperatures stay below normal. you can see a big low pressure area over my shoulder. this will shove a front in the bay area eventually. the on shore will keep most of us in the 50s tuesday and wednesday. dry part goes away on thursday as a weak front moves through. we will see some scattered showers. low to mid 50s for highs on thursday and friday. temperatures stay low because that on shore flow and fog. some showers return with that front on thursday. friday will be chilly. c

little chilly in the spots. livermore checking in at 39 degrees. and 39 in santa rosa. by the afternoon, the highs are going to be cooler today, not as warm as the weekend. the highs generally topping out in the upper 50s along the bay area. and much cooler weather to come. not only could we see rain, but maybe a little snow, too. we'll have more in a moment. let's check out the roads with elizabeth. >>> and in the south bay, 880 approaching montague expressway. all lanes are clear as of a few minutes ago. the main lins of the freeway are moving at top speeds. >>> we have our live reporter on scene at 101 and blossom hill road, the scene of an overnight fatal accident. the main lines are not impacted. you will find road closures approaching 101 on blossom road. that's where you'll find the delays. police crews still on scene investigating the accident overnight, and golden gate bridge traffic flowing nicely. a lot of folks have the long three day weekend and mass transit is on a holiday schedule including b.a.r.t. trains. just a heads up. that's a check of traffic. back to you

the mid-60s. san rosa 65. as you would guess, the radar is clear. will stay clear for the weekend. we have had 12 different januarys in our history with less tan 1 inch of rainfall. that means we will be dry all winter? no. average rain in february was more than 3 inches. we could actually use that. history says we will get more coming up. oakland down to 46. another chilly night inland. fairfield 37. san rosa 36. there is some moisture working its way up south. this will filter the sunshine a bit tomorrow. all about that big bubble of high pressure not moving much. it stays put, our weather stays indictment big low pressure area moves in from the north and quest. you'll get an even better look at the bridge in our sunday night >> reporter: we are looking out to the eastern span of the bay bridge that has been under construction for the past 11 years. that bay bridge was opened up on november 12th of 1936. that is 76 years ago. actually, it opened up six months ahead of the golden gate bridge. obviously it is time for a little facelift. so, 11 years ago reconstruction began on this ba

. they are testing them tonight. currently 48 degrees in santa rosa. what we experienced today as far as our high temperatures are concerned, numbers generally about 7 degrees warmer than yesterday. pretty much into the 50s and the 60s. 58 degrees in san francisco which is averaging a couple of degrees below normal for this time of the year but we should be around 64 in san jose. tonight, overnight, we'll see numbers dipping down to that freezing point again right there in santa rosa. 33 degrees in livermore so pleasanton, you should drop down to 32. same story around antioch and disco bay, 37 degrees in san jose backing through the almaden valley. 42 in oakland. what you need to know your weather headlines do suggest that we will see tonight some clear skies and it looks like for the most part some areas of patchy frost in our inland areas. sunday starting off cold with sunrise at 7:06. seasonal temperatures during the day, gradually warming up and dry weather pattern continues. we are still under the influence of an area of high pressure here. see that right there? that was our thur

francisco. 67 also in san jose. and 62 degrees in santa rosa. now looks like as we head throughout the afternoon plenty of sunshine all the way to the coastline. mostly clear tonight with those offshore winds. and it looks like it's going to be a dry weekend but probably not quite as warm especially into sunday. that's when we are likely going to see a sea breeze pick up once again and temperatures will drop off. temperatures in the low to mid- 60s this time of year. nine degrees above average in san francisco and about 69, 73 in san jose and about 70 in santa rosa so you get the idea working on a great day ahead. this is probably the peak of the heat as the high pressure is overhead. that's when these temperatures start to warm up. it will be a very nice day today and a mild weekend indeed. warm temperatures all around the bay area. even out at the coastline. today looking very nice outside. the temperatures expected to pop up as high as 37 degrees in san jose. about 68 in half moon bay. 70 in hayward. east bay temperatures looking very nice, as well. let's plan on 69 in livermore, 70

to mid-60s, today as much as 9 degrees above average of 71 in santa rosa and livermore, and about 65 degrees in san francisco. >> i'm excited. gets better each day. thank you, lawrence. outside right now, pretty quiet. we have one traffic accident we're watching but first i want to show you a busier commute westbound 580 through the dublin interchange and slow sensors through livermore. the drive time almost 20 minutes between the altamont pass and pleasanton. to our maps, this is that accident we're still watching. it's been there sense 4 a.m. northbound 17 by redwood estates close to the, coming into los gatos a right lane is blocked. tow crews are on scene, minor injuries. the rest of the south bay looks okay. and once again eastbound 580 at north greenville some closures, lane closures until 11:00. that's traffic. back to you guys. >> thank you. >>> clean-up is expected to continue i had to after that massive water main break in san francisco yesterday. it's been a little over 24 hours since the pipe broke. the rupture damaged dozens of cars an homes in the neighborhood. kpix 5 r

got rain showers in hidden lake. winds are almost as far south as santa rosa. we have showers right now, a rare treat. you can count the rainy days still on one land. there's a front that's kind of washing out as it heads toward the bay area. we'll have cloud cover earlier tomorrow morning. much of the moisture will stay in the north bay and just kind of wash out to the east, all because that dome of high pressure is still protecting us. and the dome of high pressure will be on the move. by friday, which will be the warmest day of the week, we will get an offshore wind, wind coming out of the northeast. that will be low 70's for everybody. even san francisco will likely hit 70 degrees. then changes. the first change of high pressure begins to move out. by sunday, we'll be down to the low 60's for highs. and by tuesday and wednesday of next week, two straight days, with a rain chance. first time that has happened so far this year. tomorrow mid to upper 60's. livermore, 67. san jose, 67. los altos, 67. 68 walnut creek. pleasanton, sunshine tomorrow. sonoma, you'll hit 70. and sausalit

holiday weekend around 7degrees for san francisco. san jose and santa rosa. oakland you hit 75 today. you're currently at 72. the cool spot it's chilly in livermore at 65 degrees. you hit the upper 60s. radar is clear. that's going to change, as well. kpix 5 high-def doppler radar will be showing some activity moving in monday evening. we have a holiday weekend coming up and it won't be that chilly overnight. 43 concord, 49 san francisco and napa 41. high pressure is in the perfect spot to at offshore wind for one more day. notice there is some moisture trying to head in our direction moving from west to east. look what's happening. it's hitting the wall and being shoved way up into canada. that's because of that protective dome of high pressure literally blocking moisture, fronts, storms, rainfall from making it to the bay area. but the process of cooling us down begins on sunday. tomorrow another day right around 70 degrees. very mild outside. then high pressure begins to slide down to the south and that same dome of high pressure will give us an onshore flow. mid-60s on sunday. up

quite as much sun and not quite as warm, but right now concord at 39, oakland's got 51, santa rosa is at 39, san jose has 45 degrees. high pressure is in full command of the pacific and will continue to stay there for the next couple of days before is begins to break down under the influence of a cold front on its way from the gulf of alaska. that will spread rain by tuesday. mostly sunny today, cooler tomorrow and then it'll get wet late on monday with rain spreading over most of the bay on tuesday. satellite and radar shows an anemic cold front up there and the high clouds we're getting are coming from southern california and moving north over the state at the moment. so you go outside right now and you'll see clouds 15,000 to 30,000 feet. high pressure is behind all of that. it's just that we don't have quite as warm numbers as we had yesterday. just fair and mild today. snow pack update, we're at 75% of normal snow pack. that's way down from where we are at the start of the year. and the pinpoint forecast, if you're heading out of the bay area, is calling for sunny skies in the ce

freezing out toward the 680 corridor and toward napa, yountville and santa rosa. notice the huge counterclockwise swivel. that's a big upper level area of low pressure, plenty of rain and mountain snowfall. the snow level will drop down to 3,000 feet. now on the other side of the low, our source of air is coming down from canada. so the rain is gone. but the chill is going to stick around. you will get some sunshine tomorrow into the mid-50s but it won't feel that mild outside because the breeze coming down from the north and northwest. that flow of air coming from the north is not going away until sunday at the earliest so we'll have cold mornings and below normal afternoons which is still 60 which is not that bad compared to other parts of the country but we'll be below normal for the next several days. cold mornings, chilly, breezy afternoons but the rain which we could use some more rainfall, i don't see any more rainfall until saturday now that this rainfall is moving out. highs tomorrow about 8 degrees below average for san jose, 5 degrees below normal for concord. that equ
